All these people who grouse about sluggish fat kids should
have seen the team on this walk - straight up the hill at
a run and chattering as they went, leaving the adults puffing
and panting. Fourteen explorers turned out: Abbie, Alasdair,
Alexandria, Allan, Benjamin, Charlie, Jack, Jamie, Katie,
Killian, Lucy, Melissa, Sarah and Thomas; with eight adult
helpers: Ann-Marie, Chris, Joanne, John Evans, John Mac.,
Pamela, Philippa and Sandra and a trio of dog helpers: Bruce,
Lady and Stan.
The expedition started by examining a long building above
the Camus Torsa Forestry lay-by. This looks more like workshops
or stables than houses and a few ideas were put forward about
it. Then we started on the long climb to the top of the wood,
crossing the hydro-line wayleave before joining an old steep
track up through the plantation.

We were making very good time when we got to the furthest
point of the last expedition so I carried on up the hill.
The first thing we found was an ancient recessed platform
with the remains of a stone hut on it. We carried on climbing
until we were all stopped by a steep gorge with a stream roaring
through it. Everyone had a snack at this point.
Just like last time, we tried a slightly different way down,
which proved to be very wet and slippery in parts. The bonus
was that we found another platform high in the woods and several
of the explorers slid quite large distances down the steep
bits of hill. A certain amount of wet moss was thrown at this
point: comments were made but no lasting damage resulted.
Navigation was no problem since we could see the sea through
the trees, but we reached the wayleave a bit to the west of
our starting point.
There was still some time when we got to the cars, so we made
another excursion to see the whisky tree, which was still
in good condition.
