Expedition 9 - 16th October 1998
Kinlochmoidart

The expedition to Kinlochmoidart assembled at the Old Bridge at 9.30 in the worst weather some of the members had ever been out in. The members were Charlene, Claire, David, Donalda, Ellen, Frances, John, Karen, Margaret, Robbie, Robin and Tracy.

We first looked at the old smiddy and then tried to see the carved initials in the bridge parapet, but it was too wet and windy. Many of the participants were soaked to the skin within the first hour.

The expedition followed the River Walk to the Nursery Pool and then the road past East Lodge to the Walled Garden. We looked at a few strange trees on the way but it was too wild and dark to stay long.

Behind the Big House, Frances showed us the tree which was planted when Nino, the owner, was born.

We then, getting wetter and wetter, went to the Prince's Walk, where Frances showed us the Prince's Well.

At the end of the Princes Walk we reached the Kinlochmoidart Church of St Finnan. Frances showed the members over the church and several of them performed a brief wedding ceremony, with considerable dignity.

Since we were all very wet, we were grateful to go to Frances' and Robert's house for tea and a chance to dry by the fire.

Finally we fought our way back down the road to the cars in a howling gale before driving quickly to Mave's for a much-needed feed.
